ABOUT AFI


The American Film Institute Conservatory is a world-renowned, highly selective film MFA program based in Los Angeles, California. Known for its hands-on, collaborative approach and emphasis on story, the AFI nurtures authentic voices and integrous leadership. In 2020, the AFI was ranked the #1 US film school (Hollywood Reporter, “Top 25 Film Schools in America).

Established in 1969, the program provides intensive training across six disciplines: Cinematography, Directing, Editing, Producing, Production Design and Screenwriting.

The thesis film is the final achievement of a Fellow’s 2-year journey at the AFI.
